Establishing a Walk-in Policy is one of the best ways to say thank you to your theatre community.

What is a Walk-In Policy
A Walk-in policy is simply a list that others in the industry can call and be added to for a certain one of your performances. Being on this list entitles our actors who have not bought tickets to come ahead of the show and be admitted for free if there are any seats that will not be used.

Everyone Has Them
As anyone who has ever worked in a box office can tell you, no show is ever sold completely out. Every theatre must hold at least two seats in case the president or someone even more important shows up. For this reason, some seats go to waste when they could be used by actors struggling to get into the industry, who often do not have the money to pay for the tickets.

What if the house really IS full?
What if you have added 2 walk-in slots to Saturday's performance, but the house is packed, b/c Tim Robbins showed up with a group of 15 and took all the house seats AND all the seats that were no-shows? Sadly, on this night, those on the walk-in list would not get in. The Walk-in list is no guarantee of tickets, so if the house is full, the people on the walk-in list must find other plans for the night…maybe even with one another.

What is the process?

To set up a walk-in list, the process is simple.
1. Make a decision about how many walk-in sign-ups you will allow per night.
(We recommend 2 per night of the show you can always add more. But, if you are a huge house, then you may want to up that number to as many as 5 or 10.)

2. Put a calendar near the front window of the box office, and as people contact you about a certain night, simply write their name and phone number on the calendar for the night they want to come. Make sure to inform them what time they should be there to check to see if they will get tickets.

3. On the night of the performance, sit back and enjoy the big smiles as you give actors the chance to see your theatre's work and a chance to study their craft.
